RESOLiJTION NO. '739 O8
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S).
WHEREAS, the Island of Hawaii is located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and help
may only be available from another island that may also be impacted by the same disaster or
From the mainland of the United States in the event of catastrophe, such distant assistance may
cause severe delays in receiving assistance; and
WHEREAS, the Island of Hawaii is subjected to lava flows, hurricanes, tropical storms,
floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, rockslides, and other disasters and has frequently had many areas
on the island become isolated in a disaster; and
WHEREAS, the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates
people about disaster preparedness, trains volunteers in basic response skills; such as, fire safety,
light search and rescue, and disaster medical operations, and with their training, CERT members
can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following a disaster event, and can take a
more active role in prepazing their community; and
WHEREAS, disaster preparedness is the responsibility of every adult, family,
neighborhood, community, and government; and
WHEREAS, Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to
the Hawaii County Fire Department to provide funding for overtime wages to the instructors
who do the training in their free time in Kona, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

010.101.5101.91 Clerk-Council SVC -Contingency Relief $5,400
CREDITED TO:
010.221.5221.01 Hawaii County Fire Department $5,400

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward a copy of this
resolution to the Fire Chief and the Director of Finance and that the Director of Finance is hereby
authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
