Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 1357, transmitted by
Mayor Harry Kim, dated July 17, 2008, nominates Ms. Diane Gentry of Council District 5 to the County of
Hawaii Board of Ethics.
Ms. Gentry is a lifetime resident of Hawaii and was employed by the County Council as a Legislative.
Assistant. Ms. Gentry was employed as a Customer Service Agent with Aloha Airlines. She recently served
as a member on the County of Hawaii Board of Appeals, Puna Traffic Safety, South Hilo Traffic Safety, and
served as secretary for the Hui Malama Ola Na Oiwi. Ms. Gentry states that she is not affiliated with any
political party. If confirmed, Ms. Gentry will replace Mr. Wayne Joseph's vacancy, whose term will expire
on December 31, 2009.
Ms. Renee Schoen of the Corporation Counsel Office recommended support for the nomination of
Ms. Gentry. Ms. Gentry was not present at the Committee meeting, and members asked that she be present
at the next reading at full Council.
Pursuant to Article XIV, Section 14-5, Hawaii County Charter, there shall be a Board of Ethics appointed
by the Mayor with the approval of the Council.
Your Committee on Finance recommends the confirmation of Ms. Diane Gentry to the Hawaii County
Board of Ethics.
