No. 711-08 <br /> PLACE: Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Hotel <br /> 78-128 `Ehukai Street <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawaii <br /> TIME: 9:30 a.m. <br /> <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 711-08, reports as follows: <br /> <br /> Resolution No. 711-08, transmitted by Director of Finance William Takaba, via Communication No. 1358, <br /> dated July 24, 2008, creates positions through County funds, to enable the Office of Aging to better utilize the <br /> Federal funds towards services for the elderly and their caregivers. <br /> <br /> The Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) will soon be opening up on the Big Island of Hawaii, <br /> which will be a one-stop resource center that will provide information and assistance services to older adults <br /> and caregivers. At present, two contractual positions, a Caregiver Information & Assistance Specialist (SR-22) <br /> and a Data Processing Clerk (SR-10), that were hired to assist with the ADRC, by the Hawaii County Office of <br /> Aging. These positions, funded by Federal monies, are essential to the success and effectiveness of the ADRC. <br /> Creating these positions through County funds will enable the Office of Aging to better utilize the federal funds <br /> toward services for the elderly and their caregivers. <br /> <br /> Alan Parker, Director of Office of Aging stated to Your Committee that the request for this measure was made <br /> by the Mayor's office. <br /> <br /> Pursuant to Article V, Section 5-1.3(c), Hawaii County Charter, states that the Mayor has the power to "Create <br /> positions... for which appropriations have been made by the Council." <br /> <br /> Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 711-08, and <br /> recommends its adoption. <br /> <br /> la <br /> <br /> AYES NOES A&E Ex Respectfully submitted, <br /> FORD x <br /> HIGA x COMMITTEE ON FINANCE <br /> HOFFMANN X <br /> IKEDA X <br /> JACOBSON X <br /> NAEOLE X <br /> PILAGO x DOMINIC YAGON H <br /> YAGONG x FC REPO O. 305 <br /> YOSHIMOTO X ADOPTED: At M 7 7 7nng <br />
