Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 714-08, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 714-08, transmitted jointly with Bill No. 337 by Director of Finance William Takaba, via
Communication No. 1361, dated July 24, 2008, authorizes the Office of the Mayor to enter into an agreement
with the State of Hawaii Department of Health, for the Sexual Violence Prevention and Planning Process grant
for the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.
The State of Hawaii Department of Health's Maternal & Child Health Branch has authorized funding of $8,000
to the Hawaii Office of the Prosecuting Attorney for the Sexual Violence Prevention and Planning Process
grant. The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney is being contracted for services relating to the planning and
development of an initiative for the primary prevention of sexual violence. The funding will be used to convene
a Big Island group of sexual violence prevention stakeholders to provide input to the statewide Sexual Violence
Prevention and Planning committee, which will include a minimum of three meetings of the committee to elicit
input and, assure county-level participation in the development of a statewide sexual violence prevention plan.
Pursuant to Section 46-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, and Section 13-13(b), Hawaii County Charter, the Mayor
is hereby authorized to enter into agreements with the federal or state governments respecting action to be taken
pursuant to any of the powers granted by law to furnish, expend and receive any funds or other assistance in
connection with projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those powers.
There was no discussion on this measure.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 714-08, and
recommends its adoption.
