Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 867, transmitted by
Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro, dated May 20, 1998, reports as follows:
The purpose of Communication No. 867 is to recommend the appointment of the following
individual as a member of the Hawaii County Board of Appeals:
Mr. Patrick G. Edie of Ka'u, is nominated to fill the vacancy created by the unexpired
term ending December 31, 1999, of Deanna Hammersley of Kona who resigned on
May 13, 1998 because she is leaving the County for an extended period of time.
Mr. Edie, of no political affiliation, is a 28-yeaz resident of Hawaii. He has been with the
Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Corporation since 1983, and currently serves as its manager.
He currently is a member of the Aloha Performing Art Center, the Volcano Art Center
and the Pahala Community Adult Education Program.
Pursuant to Section 5-6.3 of the Hawaii County Charter, the mayor shall appoint members to the
Boazd of Appeals to be confirmed by the Council, as prescribed in Section 13-4 of the Hawaii
County Charter.
Mr. Edie does not foresee any potential conflicts in abiding with the sections regazding Boards
and Commissions.
Your Committee on Planning recommends the approval of the appointment of Mr. Patrick G.
Edie to the Hawaii County Boazd of Appeals.
