No. 1351/Bi11334 PLACE: Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa 78-128 Ehukai Street Kailua-Kona, HI 96740 TIME: 1:00 p.m. Council Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred Communication No. 1351, regarding Bill 334, reports as follows: Bill 334, transmitted by Director of Public Works Bruce McClure, via Communication No. 1351, dated July 24, 2008, amends Chapter 24, article 10, division 2, section 24-264, schedule 12 (Stop intersections), paragraph (g) Puna, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005 Editions, as amended), is amended by adding the following, to appropriately numbered and to read as follows: ~ Entering Ka`ohe Homestead Road from Cemetery Road The intent of this amendment is based on a request made by Lori Enriquez and the Ka`ohe Homesteads Community & Farm Watch through Council member Emily I. Naeole to assign right-of--way and increase safety for motorists in this area. There was a comment from James Weatherford on this proposed bill regarding the possibility of a roundabout being used instead of a Stop sign as commended for consideration when improving existing intersection in Resolution 245-06. Department of Public Works Director Bruce McClure appeared before your committee. Council member Bob Jacobson inquired about the possibility of using a roundabout in this area as James Weatherford suggested earlier in his testimony. Mr. McClure was unable to provide an answer at this time and stated that he would look into the matter for further consideration. Council member Emily Naeole seeks the support of her colleagues on this proposed traffic code amendment to improve the safety for motorists in Puna.
