Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred Communication
No. 1431, regarding Resolution 740-08, reports as follows:
Resolution 740-08, transmitted by Council Chair Pete Hoffmann, via Communication No. 1431 dated
July 29, 2008, urging the Administration to Release the Funds of the Award of a $500,000 Grant to the
Hawaii Island Veterans Memorial, Inc (HIVM). Funds will be used to progress to Phase 2 of the HNM
project; establishing a veteran's center and housing project to meet the needs of the island's veteran
community.
There was one testimony from the public in support of this proposed bill. '
Council member Dominic Yagong questioned why this resolution was necessary to urge Administration to
release the award of a State grant to HIVM. Council Chair Hoffmann stated the proposed resolution was
deemed necessary by Administration to officially transfer funds before the allocation of the State grant is
made to Hawaii Island Veterans Memorial, Ina (HIVM). Council Chair Hoffman seeks the support of his
colleagues on this proposed resolution.
Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations is in accord with the purpose and intent
of Resolution 740-08, and recommends its adoption.
