r <br /> REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PLANNING <br /> DATE: February 3, 1998 Re: C-682 <br /> PLACE: Councilroom <br /> TIME: 2:57 p.m. <br /> Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 682 transmitted by Mayor Stephen K. <br /> Yamashiro dated January 16, 1998, reports as follows: <br /> The purpose of Communication No. 682 is to recommend the appointment of the following individuals as members <br /> of the Kailua Village Design Commission: <br /> Mrs. Kimi Cook-McKie, Mr. Eazl Fujikawa and Mr. Robert V ander Veer aze nominated to terms ending <br /> December 31, 2000. <br /> Mrs. Cook-Mckie, a 17-year resident of Hawaii, has been a realtor with Realty Executives Hawaii since <br /> April 1997. Previously, she was the owner-broker of Real Estate Resources in Manhattan Beach, <br /> California. <br /> Mr. Fujikawa, a 13-year resident of Hawaii, has been aself-employed building consultant since <br /> 1993. He was the maintenance supervisor with Mauna Kea Beach Hotel from 1989-1993. <br /> Mr. Vander Veer, a 9-year resident of Hawaii who is currently retired, was acounselor/ <br /> instructor/administrator with the Seattle Central Community College from 1960-1988. <br /> Mr. Robert D. Triantos, a 30-year resident of Hawaii, has been an attorney with Carlsmith <br /> Ball Wichman Case and Ichiki since 1979. He will serve the remainder of Diane R. Nui's <br /> unexpired term which will end on December 31, 1998 due to her resignation. <br /> Mrs. Cook-McKie, Mr. Fujikawa and Mr. Vander Veer were present at today's meeting. Mrs. Cook-McKie has <br /> been living in Kona since August 1997 and stated that as a Commission member she can express her views on the <br /> Kona Village Design. Mr. Vander Veer considers Kailua V illage a beautiful place to live and by serving on the <br /> Commission he can "give back" to the community. Because of his background, Mr. Fujikawa will be able to <br /> provide his expertise in the planning process for Kailua Village. <br /> Pursuant to Article 7, Chapter 25 of the Hawaii County Code, the mayor shall appoint members to the commission <br /> to be confirmed by the Council, as prescribed in Section 25-7-2 of the Hawaii County Code. <br /> Your Committee on Planning recommends the approval of the appointments of Mrs. Kimi Cook-McKie, Mr. Ear] <br /> Fujikawa, Mr. Robert Vander Veer and Mr. Robert D.
