Dear Chairman Pilago and Committee Members,
Ag Tourism offers farmers a means to educate our visitors about our Island's rich Agri-Culture, as well as
the opportunity to direct-market their farm products.
The Kona County Farm Bureau is in support of the approval of Bill 148. We believe the Bill adequately
defines the scope and establishes appropriate conditions for Ag tourism as a secondary activity to an
agricultural operation.
From a "land use" perspective, agricultural tourism is different in the sense that the potential impacts
primarily come not from a result of what is built on the land, but from the introduction of visitors, people,
and the related commercial activities, upon land and infrastructure intended to accommodate growing
crops and/or raising animals.
The Kona County Farm Bureau requests the following amendment to 25-2-76 by including the following
condition. We believe that a site inspection will be necessary to assure that the required site
improvements provide for visitor safety, reduce potential conflicts and protect [he quality of life within
our agriculture community.
fie) The director shall only issue plan approval for an Ag tourism establishment after a site
inspection has been completed to verify that the proposed use meets all on site and off site
requirements contained in 25-2-75.
