Comm. 1559: A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE MAYOR TO ESTABLISH A GMO ADVISORY (Res. 809-08) COMMISSION PURSUANT TO ARTICLE IV, SECTION 4-4, HAWAII COUNTY CHARTER (requests establishment of a GMO Advisory Commission for the purpose of furthering research and discussion of genetic engineering to determine the appropriateness of the use of transgenic crops) From Councilmember K. Angel Pilago, dated October 21, 2008, transmitting the above resolution, which also recommends that members of the GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms) Advisory Commission include, but not be limited to, the USDA Pacific Basin Agricultural Research Center, the taro growers association, the University of Hawaii at Hilo Serving the Interests of the People of Our Island Hawai `i County is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer HSEDC-25 Page 2 November 6, 2008 College of Agriculture, independent coffee farmers, coffee processors and roasters, organic farmers, the livestock industry, the floral and ornamental industry, the food industry and two scientist/researchers, one who favors and one who opposes genetic modification.
