Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 104 transmitted by
Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro, dated January 14, 1997, reports as follows:
The purpose of Communication No. 104 is to request confirmation of Virginia Goldstein as the
Director of Planning Department for the County of Hawaii. Ms. Goldstein who has served as the
Planning Director for the past four years, has extensive experience in Hawaii County government
and private business.
Pursuant to Section 5-4.2, Chapter 4 of the Hawaii County Charter, the planning director shall be
appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the Council.
Your Committee expressed their appreciation for Ms. Goldstein's assistance to the help the
Council understand land use issues, policies and process.
Your Committee on Planning recommends confirmation ofthe appointment of Ms. Virginia
Goldstein as the Planning Director.
