RESOLUTION CREATING A WATER SAFETY OFFICER II POSITION FOR THE
HAWAII FIRE DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, the Hawaii Fire Department is having difficulties in its recruitment for part-time
Water Safety Officer II positions, particularly in the Kona District; and
WHEREAS, there are qualified and interested candidates to fill a Water Safety Officer II
position if it was a full time position; and
WHEREAS, the establishment of a full time Water Safety Officer II, SR-17, position will
facilitate better scheduling and beach coverage; and
WHEREAS, presently, there are two (2) funded Water Safety Officer II (1/2T) positions
vacancies at the respective beach/unit and their funding will be used towards the new position; and
WHEREAS, these vacancies will provide the sufficient funding in the Ocean Safety's
Regular Salaries and Wages account (010.221.5223.01.011); and
WHEREAS, Article V, Section 5-1.3(c) of the Hawaii County Charter states that the Mayor
has the power to "Create positions...fortyhich appropriations have been made by the council...".
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that a Water Safety Officer II, SR-17, position be created in the Hawaii Fire Department.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that there should be sufficient funds in the Ocean Safety's
Regular Salaries and Wages account (010.221.5223.01.011).
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the
Departments of Finance, Human Resources, and Fire.
