Your Committee nn Finance. to which was referred Resolution No. 314-98, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 314-98, transmitted by Finance llirector Harry Takahashi, dated August 19. 1998, via
Communication No. 959, authorizes the Mayor of the County of Hawaii to enter into an agreement with
the United States of America for a Violence .against Children Grant.
The United States of America, through the State Department of the Attorney General Crime Prevention and
Justice Assistance llivision. is desirous of providing funding to improve the quahty of investigation into
extrafamilial and intrafamilial senlal and physical abuse of children.
Pursuant to Section 46-7. Hawaii Revised Statutes, the Federal government may enter into agreements with
the Council of the County- of Hawaii providing the expenditures or receipt of funds or for other assistance.
'The Mayor is hereby authorized and desiguah;d to sign in the name of the County Project Number 97-DB-
13, which will et~fectuate these purposes.
Funds have already bean appropriated in the Operating Budget.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 314-98 and
recommends its adoption.
