It has come to my attention that there is two items on the Public Works and
Intergovernmental Relations Committee December 16th,2008 agenda that pertain to the speed
limit on the Puainako Street Extension.
Comm 12~AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 24 OF THE HAWAII COUNTY CODE Bill 3 1983 2005
-EDITION'AS AMENDED RELATING TO VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC proposes am4i5leper hour speed limit
to the Puainako Street extension from Komohana Street to a point 584 feet east of Wilder
Road From Public Works Director Bruce C McClure dated November 17 2008 transmitting the
above bill

EDITION AS AMENDED RELATING TO VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC proposes a 35 mile per hour speed
limit to the Puainako Street extension from 584 feet east of Wilder Road to Western
Terminus From Public Works Director Bruce C McClure dated November 17 2008 transmitting
the above bill
I thought it was always 45mph past Wilder Road towards Komohana Street and 35mph between
Wilder Road and Saddle Road. Thus these ordinances do not make any sense to me. Especially
since seems that you are just keeping the status quo in place.
I had spoken to the DPW about raising the speed limit for the entire road to 45mph (or
higher) after the road opened. The grade of the roadway warrants a higher speed limit.
Whenever I drive down the Puainako Street extension I find myself constantly braking to
stay
legal- even in second gear.However the DPW informed me that the existing speed limits were
based on AASHTO standards.
I urge you to consider raising the speed limit at least to 45 mph (except in the area of
Wilder Road).
