Your Conunittee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 822-08, reports as lollows:
Resolution No. 822-08, transmitted jointly with Bill No. 397 by Director of Finance William "fal:aba, via
Communication No. 1578, dated November ~, 2008, authorizes the Office of the Mayor to enter into an
agreement with the United States of America, Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration
for the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Program grant
7"he U. S. Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration has been awarded another $20,000
Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Program Gran[ I (OCDETF) to the Hawaii County
Police Department. These funds, awarded towards a particular OCDETF investigation case, will be used
for overtime and travel costs incurred by deputized officers during special investigations and
prosecutions.
Pursuant to Section 46-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, County Departments must obtain the consent of the
Council to enter into agreements with the federal or state governments respecting action to be taken
pursuant to any of the powers granted by law to furnish, expend and receive any funds or other assistance
in connection with projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those powers.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 822-08, and
recommends its adoption.
