Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. ] 6-09, reports as follows:
Resolution No.16-09, transmitted by Finance Director Nancy Crawford, via Communication
No. 29, dated December 3,2008, creates a Water Safety II position for the Hawaii Fire
Department.
The Hawaii Fire Department is having difficulties in its recruitment for part-time Water Safety
Officer Il positions, particularly in the Kona District. There are currently five half-time Water
Safety Officer II positions at that location, two of which are vacant. Since there are qualified and
interested candidates to fill a Water Safety Officer II position if it was a full time position, the
Fire Department is requesting the creation of a full-time ~`/ater Safety Officer II, SR-17, position.
Councilmember Ford requested support. She stated that this will not cost the County of Hawaii
any additional money since it is just a combination of two part-time positions into one full time
position.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 16-09,
and recommends its adoption.
