No. 11Bi112 <br />PLACE: Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa <br />78-128 Ehukai Street <br />Kailua-Kona, HI 96740 <br />TIME: 1:00 p.m. <br />Council Chair and Members <br />Hawaii County Council <br />Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br />Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred <br />Communication No. 11, regazding Bill 2, reports as follows: <br />Bi112, transmitted by Director of Public Works, Bruce McClure, via Communication No. 11, <br />dated November 17, 2008 amends Chapter 24, Article 10, Division 4, Section 24-276, <br />.Schedule 24 (Crosswalks), paragraph (f) Kona, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005 edition, <br />as amended), by adding the following, to be appropriately numbered and to read as follows: <br />" ~ Ali`i Drive in Kailua-Kona, one thousand three hundred five feet southeast of <br />Royal Poinciana Drive." <br />There was no testimony from the public on this proposed bill. <br />Committee Chair Brenda J. Ford relinquished her seat to Committee Vice Chair Kelly <br />Greenwell. <br />Public Works Director Warren Lee and Traffic Division Chief Ron Thiel appeared before your <br />Committee. Mr. Thiel commented that the need for this traffic amendment is based on a request <br />made by Councilmember Brenda Ford in an effort to increase the number of mazked crosswalks <br />in the area and that the gap study conducted by the Department verified the need for marked <br />crosswalks. <br />Council Member Brenda J. Ford commented that due to several traffic fatalities and accidents in <br />this area, the crosswalks will offer safe traversing by its residents, beach and store patrons. <br />Furthermore, Ms. Ford added that $300,000 was appropriated to this fiscal year's operating <br />budget for the project. <br />PWIRC RPT NO. 2 <br />
