Mr. Benjamin Watai, Sr. was previously appointed to serve the remainder of atwo-year term on
the Hawaii County Transportation Commission, which ended on December 31, 2008. Pursuant
to County Charter Section 13-4(c), he can be re-appointed to his same position for an additional
full term. Therefore, it is my pleasure to renominate Benjamin M. Watai, Sr., of Council
District 8 to the County of Hawaii Transportation Commission.
Mr. Watai is a 72-year resident of Hawaii. He retired in 1985 as the superintendent of the
Keauhou Kona Golf Course, where he worked for 18 years. Mr. Watai's community service
includes membership on the Kealakehe Neighborhood Watch, and the Kealakehe Community
Association. He also currently serves as a disabled parking enforcement officer.
Mr. Watai states that he is a Democrat. If confirmed, he will serve a term that will expire on
December 31, 2013.
