<br />. <br /> <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br /> <br />r>r~ . · <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO.-14 97 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on January 20, 1997, the State of Hawaii will commemorate <br /> <br />Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday as an official state holiday; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Hawaii recognizes and esteems Dr. King for championing <br /> <br />civil rights and for advancing interracial harmony among all people; and <br /> <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Dr. King's leadership in and dedication to defending <br /> <br /> <br />fundamental civil liberties and privileges have inspired us to reaffirm the <br /> <br /> <br />American ideals of freedom, justice, and opportunity for everyone; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the people and the Council of the County of Hawaii are <br /> <br />deeply pleased to join many others across our country in memorializing Dr. <br /> <br />Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday and in honoring this great American's vision <br /> <br />and work for peace for all. <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII <br /> <br />that we pay a most appreciative and thoughtful homage to the memory of Dr. <br /> <br />Martin Luther King, Jr. and that we call upon the people of Hawaii County to <br /> <br />remember, embrace, and uphold his outstanding achievements in human rights <br /> <br />and civil liberties. <br />
