RESOLUTION NO. 52 97
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING FUNDING TO HELP DEFRAY THE COST OF FIRE
WORKS FOR THE TWENTY FIFTH ANNUAL FIRE WORKS DISPLAY HELD ON
MOKU OLA (COCONUT ISLAND), HILO, HAWAII
WHEREAS, on July 4, 1997 the Lehua Jaycees will conduct the 25th
Annual Fourth of July Fire Works display on Moku 01a; and
WHEREAS, this annual event celebrates America's independence
from England; and
WHEREAS, thousands of residents and visitors enjoy the fire
works display; and
WHEREAS, the cost of the fire works has increased significantly
over the years; and
WHEREAS, to help defray the increased cost, the Lehua Jaycees
has asked the County of Hawaii to assist with the cost of purchasing
the fire works.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it is in the public interest to assist the Lehua Jaycees
in partially funding the 25th Annual Fourth of July Fire Works
Display.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII
that it authorizes the payment of $5000.00 from Clerk - Council
SVC-OCE Miscellaneous Contract Services Account No.
010-101-5101.02-115 (Council District 2 discretionary funds) to the
Lehua Jaycees to help defray the cost of purchasing fireworks for
the 25th Annual Fourth of July Fire Works display on Moku 01a.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
transmit copies of this resolution to Mr. Harry Takahashi,
Director of the Department of Finance, and Mrs. B.J. Soriano,
President of The Great Lehua Jaycees.
