RESOLUTION CREATING A SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD POSITION AT THE CROSSWALK OF THE OLD
PAHOA VILLAGE ROAD AND KAOHE ROAD FOR PAHOA ELEMENTARY, INTERMEDIATE AND HIGH
SCHOOLS
WHEREAS, Pahoa Elementary, Intermediate and High Schools are located on the Old Pahoa Village Road and
Kaohe Road, a high traffic roadway servicing many area residents; and
WHEREAS, by placing a school crossing guard at the crosswalk of the Old Pahoa Village Road and Kaohe Road
which fronts the schools, the safe crossing of children and pedestrians at this crosswalk can be assured; and
WHEREAS, Article V, Section 5-1.3( c) of the Hawaii County Charter states that the Mayor has the power to
"Create positions...for which appropriations have been made by the council..."; and
WHEREAS, there are sufficient funds in the salaries and wages account of the Police Department to cover the
cost of the additional School Crossing Guard.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HA WAIl" that one (I)
School Crossing Guard position be created to be assigned at the crosswalk of Old Pahoa Village Road and Kaohe Road
for Pahoa Elementary, Intermediate and High Schools.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the Departments of Police,
Finance and Civil Service.
