RESOLUTION NO. 69 97
RESOLUTION RELATING TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF A MULTIPURPOSE
VETERANS CENTER
WHEREAS, Hawaii County's twenty-nine veterans organizations have formed a
committee to promote the development of a multipurpose veterans center; and
WHEREAS, the committee proposes that a multipurpose veterans center would provide a
central location from which vital services, such as counseling, general assistance, and medical
treatment, could be provided; and
WHEREAS, access to vital services for veterans will be significantly enhanced by
locating key service providers in one location; and
WHEREAS, locating services in one location will reduce the costs of providing such
services; and
WHEREAS, a multipurpose veterans center would also serve the larger community
through the creation of an additional facility where residents may come to receive services, meet,
and gather; and
WHEREAS, the committee is working to obtain an appropriate site, develop building
plans, and secure necessary funding.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HA W All that it strongly endorses the concept of facilitating access to services for veterans by
developing a multipurpose veterans center in the County of Hawaii.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit a
certified copy of this Resolution to Mr. Robert L. Montague and Mr. Louis Kaoiwi as
Coordinators of the Ad Hoc Steerin~ Committee for this project.
