RESOLUTION NO. 7 8 92-
A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
ON THEIR 25TH "SILVER" ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION.
WHEREAS, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, (RSVP) provides a
variety of opportunities for retired and senior persons aged 55 and older to
participate more fully in the life of their community through significant volunteer
services; and
WHEREAS, RSVP is part of the Corporation for National Service and locally
administered through the Department of Parks and Recreation's Elderly Activities
Division which began in 1972; and
WHEREAS, as of March 1997, RSVP has 1,136 volunteers throughout
Hawaii County and is the largest program among the four counties; and
WHEREAS, RSVP volunteers have provided more than 150,000 hours of
service in private, non-profit, and public community organizations many of whom
elected to continue in their professional fields while others pursue assignments that
enable them to fulfill their lifetime ambitions; and
WHEREAS, the RSVP is being honored for their 25 years of existence with
an annual recognition luncheon sponsored by the County on May 23, 1997 at the
Hilton Waikoloa Village.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it extends its congratulations and best wishes to the Retired and
Senior Volunteer Program on their 25th "Silver" Anniversary on May 23, 1997 at
the Hilton Waikoloa Village's Grand Ballroom.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council encourages the RSVP
volunteers to continue to offer their talents that so enrich our neighborhoods, the
RSVP clients and themselves.

BE IT FINALLY RESOL YED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit
copies of this Resolution to H. Stuart Kearns, Jr., RSVP Director.
