RESOLUTION NO. 8 2

RESOLUTION INCREASING TIME ELEMENT OF WATER SAFETY OFFICERS FOR EAST
HAWAII BEACHES.
WHEREAS, West Hawaii beaches have eight (8) hour shifts with
water safety servicesi and
WHEREAS, East Hawaii beaches have had drownings' before the water
safety officers begin their shifts at 10:15 A.M.i and
WHEREAS, by increasing the time element of some water safety
officers, two and a half (2-1/2) hours of additional water safety
officer coverage will allow for training time and lunch breaks along
with back-up during peak afternoon usage hoursi and
WHEREAS, by increasing the time elements of five (5) Water
Safety Officer II 3/4T positions, Position Nos. 2859, 2860, 2868,
3233, and 3604 from 3/4T to fulltimei two (2) Water Safety Officer
II positions, position Nos. 2865 and 2867 from 9/20T to 3/4Ti one
(1) position, Position No. 2858 from 3/10T to 3/4Ti and one (1)
position, Position No. 2866 from 3/10T to 21ST, the East Hawaii
beaches will be able to have the same amount of coverage as the West
Hawaii beaches.
WHEREAS, funds are available in the Department of Parks &
Recreation, Aquatics Division's Regular Salaries and Wages account.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that Position Nos. 2859, 2860, 2868, 3233, and 3604, Water

Safety Officer II 3/4T, SR-17, be changed to Water Safety Officer
II, SR-17; Position Nos. 2865 and 2867, Water Safety Officer II
9/20T, SR-17, be changed to Water Safety Officer II 3/4T, SR-17;
that Position No. 2858, Water Safety Officer II 3/10T, SR-17, be
changed to Water Safety Officer II 3/4T, SR-17; and that Position
No. 2866, Water Safety Officer II 3/10T, SR-17, be changed to Water
Safety Officer II 2/5T, SR-17.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT funds are available in the
Salaries and Wages account.
Department of Parks & Recreation, Aquatics Division's Regular
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
transmitted to the Departments of Parks & Recreation, Finance and
Civil Service.
