RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A HAND PAINTED FIBERGLASS HONU
ARTWORK FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION
WHEREAS, Newton and Roberta Chu is donating a 5 foot hand painted fiberglass Honu artwork to
the Department of Parks and Recreation for display at the Pana'ewa Rainforest Zoo & Gardens; and
WHEREAS, this artwork, with an estimated total value of $3,000, was one of the entries in the "It's
a Honu World" exhibit and was painted by former Zoo Manager Richard Mortemore; and
WHEREAS, Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Hawaii County Charter provides that the Council, on
behalf of the County, may accept gifts or donations of personal property; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation recommends the acceptance of this
donation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII That
in accordance with Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Hawaii County Charter, the Council of the County of
Hawaii accepts this donation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a letter of appreciation be sent to Newton and Roberta Chu,
478 Kupuni Street, Hilo, Hawaii 96720, acknowledging this donation.
