Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 627, reports as follows:
Communication No. 627, transmitted by Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro, dated December 10, 1997,
nominates Mr. Wilfred M. Okabe, of Council District 3, to the Hawaii County Police Commission.
A life time resident of Hawaii, Mr. Okabe will replace Mr. Donald E. Abdul whose term will expire
on December 31, 1997. Mr. Okabe has been a teacher with the State Department of Education
since 1984. He is also a member of the East Hawaii Coalition for the Homeless, the Dream Come
True Committee, and the Hawaii State Teachers Association. Of no political affiliation, he will
serve a term to end December 31, 2002.
Pursuant to Article VII, Chapter 2, Section 7-2.2 of the Hawaii County Charter, the members of the
Police Commission shall be appointed by mayor and confirmed by the council.
Your Committee on Finance recommends the confirmation of the appointment of Mr. Wilfred M.
Okabe to the Hawaii County Police Commission.
