Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 626, reports as follows:
Communication No. 626, transmitted by Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro, dated December 10,
1997, nominates Mr. George R. Robinson and Mr. Bill P. Thibadeau to the Hawaii County Civil
Service Commission.
A 26 year resident of Hawaii, Mr. George R. Robinson of Kona will replace Harry H. Hasegawa
whose term will expire on December 31, 1997. Mr. Robinson has been the Land Manager of
Kamehameha Schools Bishop Estate since 1991. He is also a member of the Kona District Soil
and Conservation District, the Kona Coffee Council, the Hawaii Farm Bureau, the Kona-Kohala
Chamber of Commerce, and the Tropical Reforestry and Environment Education Center. A
registered Republican, Mr. Robinson will serve a term to end December 31, 2002.
A 45 year resident of Hawaii, Mr. Bill P. Thibadeau of Hilo will replace Jeanne E. Yagi whose
term will expire on December 31, 1997. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Thibadeau was president of
the Hilo Transportation and Terminal Company. Currently, he is a member of the Rotary Club
of Hilo and the Hawaii County Tax Board of Review. Of no political affiliation, Mr. Thibadeau
will serve a term to end December 31, 2002.
Pursuant to Article VII, Section 7-1.2 of the Hawaii County Charter, the civil service
commission shall consist of five members who shall be appointed by the mayor and confirmed
by the council.
Your Committee on Finance recommends confirmation of the appointment of Mr. George R.
Robinson and Mr. Bill P. Thibadeau to the Hawaii County Civil Service Commission.
