Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 24-09, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 24-09, transmitted by Assistant Corporation Counsel Gerald Takase, via Communication
No. 53, dated December 16, 2008, authorizes the acquisition of private properties by eminent domain,
being portions of tax map keys: (3)4-4-009:003 and 008.
The County of Hawaii will be doing road repairs and upgrades on Kalopa Sand Gulch Road that will
require the acquisition of these lands.
Chairman Yagong relinquished the chair to Vice Chair Ikeda to discuss this issue. Councilmember
Yagong outlined the history of the project and explained how rt had taken over 18 years to come to
fruition. Councilmember Yagong stated that Mr. Robert Rosehill of Kamehameha Schools-Bishop Estate
is in full support of the community project and only needed the resolution for eminent domain for tax
purposes because of their non-profit status.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 24-09, and
recommends its passage on first reading.
