Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 189, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 189, transmitted by Council Vice-Chair Al Smith, via Communication No. 589,
dated November 17, 1997, accepts a donation from Puna Geothermal Venture.
Puna Geothermal Venture has graciously donated thirty-two Royal Palms to the County of
Hawaii, Department of Pazks and Recreation for the Hawaiian Beaches Park. The donated
palms are valued at $3,200.
Pursuant to Article XIII, Section 13-12 of the Hawaii County Charter, the council, on behalf of
the county, may accept gifts of donations or personal property.
Resolution No. 189 was amended by deleting the condition to use the Royal Palms at the
Hawaiian Beaches Pazk. Instead, the resolution would allow for the Royal Palms to be planted
at any Puna area park.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 189, as
amended to Draft 2, and recommends its adoption. Your Committee also recommends that a
letter of appreciation be sent to Bazry Mizuno, Financial Manager, Puna Geothermal Venture at
P.O. Box 30, Pahoa, Hawaii 96745.
