<br />. <br /> <br />'. <br /> <br />",,---J <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />COUNTY OF HAW~II",,':STATE OF HAWAII <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />RESOLUTION <br />A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE STATE LEGISLATURE TO CONDUCT AN AUDIT OF THE STATEWIDE <br />MARIJUANA ERADICATION PROGRAM. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the United States of America, through the State Department of the Attorney General Crime <br />Prevention and Justice Assistance Division, annually makes available to the Hawaii County Police Department grant <br />funding for the purpose of conducting marijuana eradication missions as part of a Statewide Marijuana Eradication <br />Program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, during Hawaii County Council meetings relating to the acceptance of such grants, public concerns <br />consistently arise with respect to, inter alia, the department's compliance with grant conditions, and whether <br />departmental goals and objectives are being furthered by such missions; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the State Auditor's office is widely respected for its proficient and impartial audits of numerous <br />state programs; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the findings of an operational and fiscal audit by the State Auditor's office of the Statewide <br />Marijuana Eradication program would greatly assist the Hawaii County Council in critically evaluating the goals, <br />objectives and policies of the County of Hawaii's own marijuana eradication program. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the County of Hawaii that the Hawaii State <br />Legislature is respectfully requested to conduct an audit of the Statewide Marijuana Eradication Program and to make <br />available its findings and recommendations to the Hawaii County Council. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk is hereby directed to forward copies of this resolution to <br />Senate President Norman Mizuguchi, Speaker ofthe House of Representatives Joseph Souki, State Auditor Marion Higa, <br />State Attorney General Marjorie Bronster, Hawaii County Mayor Stephen Yamashiro, and Hawaii County Police Chief <br />Wayne Carvalho. <br /> <br />Dated at Hilo, Hawaii this ?nn day of <br /> <br />July <br /> <br />,1997. <br /> <br />INT~BY: <br /> <br /> <br />COUNCILME~~F HAWAII <br /> <br />COUNTY COUNCIL ROLL CALL VOTE <br />County of Hawaii <br />Hila, Hawaii <br /> <br />I hereby certify that the foregoing RESOLUTION was by the <br />vote indicated to the right hereof adopted by the COUNCIL of the <br />County of Hawaii on July 2, 1997 . <br /> <br />ATIEST: <br /> <br /> <br />LQ~LERK <br /> <br />CHAIRMAN & PRESIDING OFFICER <br /> <br /> AYES NOES ABS EX <br />ARAKAKI X <br />CHUNG X <br />LEITHEAD-TODD X <br />RAY X <br />REYNOLDS X <br />SANTANGELO y <br />SMITH X <br />TYLER X <br />YAGONG X <br /> 8 0 1 0 <br /> <br />Reference Conm. 370/ColmCil <br />RESOLUTION NO. fl 7,,' 9,7. <br />
