RESOLUTION
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE COUNTY OF HAWAII TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, PURSUANT TO HRS 46-7, GANG PREVENTION-KONA GRANT.
WHEREAS, the United States of America through the State Department of Human
Services Office of Youth Services, is desirous of providing funding to monitor gang
activities within the County of Hawaii and assist the State in the coordination of
the critical elements of the youth gang response system which include effective
intelligence and law enforcement, sharing of information, training and community
awareness, community and school-based intervention and prevention programs, and
evaluation and research; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Police Department is ready and willing to proceed
with its obligations under the Gang Prevention Grant;
WHEREAS, pursuant to Sections 46-7 of the Hawaii Revised Statutes, the
Federal government may enter into agreements with the Council of the County of Hawaii
providing the expenditures or receipt of funds or for other assistance;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
the Honorable Stephen K. Yamashiro is hereby authorized and designated to sign in the
name of the County Project Number DHS-98-0YS-6097, which will effectuate these
purposes.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the County Clerk is hereby directed to forward
copies of this Resolution to said Mayor Yamashiro, the Chief of Police, and any other
interested governmental agencies.
