SUBJECT: Genetically Engineered Foods and Genetically Modified Organisms Presentation

I request 30 minutes for a presentation by Mr. Jeffrey Smith on genetically engineered foods and
genetically modified organisms (GMOs) during the appropriate committee to meet on February
18, 2009.
Mr. Smith has written two books: Seeds of Deception : Exposing Industry and Government Lies
about the Safety of the Genetically Engineered Foods You're F,atiny, and Genetic Roulette: The
Documented Health Risks of Genetically Engineered Foods. He is the Executive Director of the
Institute for Responsible Technology founded in 2003 as a non-profit that works on major public
initiatives with scientists and concerned citizens from around the world, to shine a spotlight on
the dangers of GMOs. Mr. Smith has lectured in 25 countries and writes an internationally
syndicated monthly column, "Spilling the Beans".
I request this presentation so that the council may understand the perspective of Institute for
Responsible Technology on this important issue.
