Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Bill No. 124, reports as follows:
Bill No. 124, transmitted jointly with Resolution No. 141 by Finance Director Harry Takahashi,
via Communication No. 439, dated July 29, 1997, amends Ordinance 97-83, as amended, the
Operating Budget ending June 30, 1998.
The amendment is as follows:

Misc. Charges
The purpose of this ordinance is to establish the necessary appropriation within the Department
of Research and Development to support the County's role in the demonstration Papaya
Quarantine Program.
The County's participation includes leasing of lands from Bishop Estate for purposes of the
quarantine program and to support continued research on the fruit qualities of transgenic papaya
plants.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 124 and
recommends it pass first reading.
