RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A SOLAR POWERED LIGHT
FROM HAWAII ELECTRIC LIGHT CO., INC.
WHEREAS, HAWAII ELECTRIC LIGHT CO., INC., hereinafter referred to as HELCO,
has donated a solar powered light consisting of a solar panel, batteries, charge controller, switch,
flashing beacon, and two flood lights to the County of Hawaii, Department of Parks and
Recreation; and
WHEREAS, this solar powered light is specifically designed for marine applications and
was installed at the Honaunau Boat Ramp on October 14, 1997; and
WHEREAS, installation ofthis solar powered light at the Honaunau Boat Ramp will
increase the safety and security of members of the public using this County facility; and
WHEREAS, the value of this donation to the County of Hawaii is THREE THOUSAND
AND NOI100 DOLLARS ($3,000.00); and
WHEREAS, Article XIII, Section 13-12 of the Hawaii County Charter, provides that the
Council, on behalf of the County, may accept gifts or donations of money, securities or other
personal property or of real estate or any interest in real estate.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII, that in accordance with Article XIII, Section 13-12 ofthe Hawaii County Charter, the
County of Hawaii is authorized to accept the donation of a solar powered light from HELCo.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a letter of appreciation be sent to HELCO for their
gracious donation.
The County Clerk shall forward copies ofthis resolution to HELCO, the Department of
Finance, Accounts Division, and to the Department of Parks and Recreation.
