Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 137, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 137, transmitted by Police Chief Wayne G. Carvalho, via Communication
No. 428, dated August 4, 1997, authorizes the acceptance of a donation from the Hawaii Police
Athletic Federation.
The Hawaii Police Athletic Federation has graciously donated one thousand dollars ($1,000) to
be designated for use by the Hawaii County Police Department's Drug Abuse Resistance
Education (DARE) program. DARE is seeking to acquire a portable public address system for
use during parent seminars, youth conferences, summer camps and other extra-curricular events.
Currently, it is necessary for the Police Department to rent sound systems to facilitate events.
Pursuant to Article XIII, Section 13-12 of the Hawaii County Charter, the council, on behalf of
the county, may accept gifrs of donations or personal property.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. ] 37 and
recommends its adoption. Your Committee also recommends that a letter of appreciation be sent
to Mr. Gregory Hunt, President, Hawaii Police Athletic Association at P.O. Box 22623,
Honolulu, Hawaii 96823.
