RESOLUTION CREATING A CLERK POSITION FOR THE MASS
TRANSIT AGENCY.
WHEREAS, The Mass Transit Agency has expanded its duties to include
administering the Transportation Commission and the Shared Ride Taxi
Program; and
WHEREAS, the Mass Transit Agency provides services for more than
o
2,400 individuals, accounting for over 300,000 passenger trips; and
WHEREAS, the Agency also services more than 50 walk-in clients as well
as answers over 100 telephone calls daily; and
WHEREAS, the Agency has a total of 5 employees, including the Transit
Administrator, the Transit Assistant, a Clerk-Typist and 2 mechanics; and
WHEREAS, by creating a Clerk, SR-8 position to aid in compiling
statistics, answering telephone calls, selling bus tickets and coupons, and
assisting the public, the Transit Assistant would be able to devote more time to
operational activities; and
WHEREAS, Article V, Section 5-1.3(c) of the Hawaii County Charter states
that the Mayor has the power to "Create positions...for which appropriations
have been made by the counciL."; and
WHEREAS, there are funds in the Mass Transit Rental/Lease account.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that one (1) Clerk, SR-8, position be created in the Mass
Transit Agency.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that $7,875.00, be transferred from the Mass
Transit Agency Rental/Lease of Equipment account 010-311-5311.02-111 into the
Mass Transit Agency Regular Salaries and Wages account 010-311-5311.01-011.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted
to the Mass Transit Agency, Finance and Civil Service Departments.
