COUNTY OF HAWAII' ,STATE OF HAWAII
RESQLUTION
A RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION OF THE NATIONAL WOMEN'S lllSTORY MONTH.
WHEREAS, March 1998 is the twelfth annual National Women's History Month; and
WHEREAS, the theme ofthis year's National Women's History Month is
"LIVING THE LEGACY OF WOMEN'S RIGHTS; and
WHEREAS, the Hawai'i County Committee on the Status of Women is sponsoring a
"Real Women" Creative Writing Competition for students islandwide in grades 5 through 12; and
WHEREAS, the essay contest increases awareness of the many different ways that women made
history in Hawai'i and fosters pride in the outstanding accomplishments of women in Hawai'i.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI'I
that it recognizes the courage and countless contnbutions of women made history throughout the United
States and especially on the Island of Hawai'i during the celebration of March 1998 as Women's History
Month.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawai'i is instructed to transmit
copies of this resolution to Ms. Jacqui Hoover Chairperson, Hawai'i County Committee on the Status of
Women, and Ms. Cindy Hara, Essay Coordinator, along with the Hawai'i County Council's best wishes
for success and recognition deserving of their worthy contributions.
