Your Committee on Public Safety and Parks and Recreation, to which was referred
Communication 86, reports as follows:
Communication 86 from Mayor Billy Kenoi, dated January 6, 2009, requests the Council's
approval of the re-appointment of Mr. Benjamin Watai, Sr. for a consecutive term on the Hawaii
County Transportation Commission.
Mr. Watai had been previously appointed to serve the remainder of a two-year term, which
ended December 31, 2008; and according to County Charter Section 13-4(c), he can be
re-appointed to the same position for an additional consecutive term to expire on
December 31, 2013.
Your Committee on Public Safety and Parks and Recreation unanimously spoke highly of
Mr. Watai's past service and had no issues or questions for him during his appearance before the
Committee. Committee members also agreed it would not be necessary for Mr. Watai to appear
before full Council.
Your Committee on Public Safety and Parks and Recreation is in accordance with the purpose
and intent of Communication 86 and recommends confirmation of the appointment of
Mr.Benjamin Watai, Sr. to the County of Hawaii Transportation Commission.
