Re: Comm. No. 102/Res. No. 42-09
Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 42-09, reports as follows:
ResolutIOn No. 42-09, transmitted by Finance Director Nancy Crawford, via Communication No. 102,
dated January 15,2009, authorizes the acceptance of a hand painted fiberglass honu artwork for the
Department of Parks and Recreation from Newton and Roberta Chu for display at the Pana'ewa
Rainforest Zoo and Gardens. The value of this donation is estimated at $3000.
Pursuant to Article XIII, Section 13-12, Hawai'i County Charter, the Council, on behalf of the County,
may accept gifts or donations of personal property.
Also, pursuant to Chapter 2, Article 30, Section 2-162(c), Hawai'i County Code, any donation or gift
which does not falJ within the capitalization procedures of the Department of Finance shall be submitted
to the Council by letter for its approval.
A letter of appreciation will be sent to Newton and Roberta Chu, 478 Kupuni Street, Hilo, Hawai'i
96720, acknowledging their generous donation.
Council member Naeole stated her appreciation to Newton and Roberta Chu for their donation.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 42-09, and
recommends its adoption.
