Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Bill No. 263, reports as follows:
Bill No. 263, transmitted by former Council Member Elroy T. Osorio, via Communication
No. 1147, dated Apri123, 1996, amends Chapter 19 of the Hawaii County Code 1983
(1995 Edition), relating to real property taxes.
Bill No. 263 would allow for a provision that any claimant who fails to qualify for a property tax
exemption, which they had previously filed for, will be liable for any taxes owed and may have a
lien for such taxes placed on any real property the taxpayer acquires in the County. The bill also
establishes that the lien shall follow the taxpayer if the subject property is sold to a bona fide
buyer.
Bill No. 263 was originally heard on June 4, 1996, and referred to Administration for a language
change. No language change has been submitted to date.
Committee Chair Aaron Chung requested the committee close file on the aforementioned bill and
communication, as it may be reconsidered at another time.
Your Committee on Finance recommends Bill No. 263 be filed.
