Your Committee on Public Safety and Parks and Recreation, to which was referred
Communication 123 (Bill 28), reports as follows:
An Ordinance designating TMK (3) 4-8-004:006 as the "Waipi`o Community Park,"
pursuant to Chapter 15, Article 8, Section 15-67 of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005
Edition, as amended); and amending Chapter 15, Article 8, Section 15-68.1 of the
Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005 Edition, as amended), to add the "Waipi`o Community
Park" to the Parks and Recreational Facilities schedule, from Councilmember Dominic
Yagong, dated January 30, 2009.
Mr. Yagong reported on the current and proposed condition of the property. He added
that this would formally add the property to the Hilo/Hamakua parks and recreational
facilities schedule for caretaking and maintenance; and in addition to County workers, a
volunteer community group is standing by ready to begin the clean up of the parcel and
preparation for its use.
Councilmember Emily Naeole expressed her full support of this bill.

Your Committee on Public Safety and Parks and Recreation is in accordance with the
purpose and intent of Bill 28 and recommends it pass first reading.
