Your Committee on Public Safety and Parks and Recreation, to which was referred
Communication 134, reports as follows:
Communication 134 from Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated January 27, 2009, requests
the Council's confirmation and approval of the appointment of Sidney Fuke to the
County of Hawaii Liquor Commission.
Councilmember Brenda Ford questioned Mr. Fuke on his motivation to serve on this
commission. Mr. Fuke expressed his desire to serve the community and work within the
government for the~betterment of island. He also added that this role would not create
any conflict with his land and planning expertise.
Councilmember Pete Hoffman asked Mr. Fuke if he sees any specific areas needing
immediate attention within the Liquor Commission. Mr. Fuke said he has no specific
items or areas for concern, but did express his interest in conflict resolution between
neighboring parties. Councilmembers Yagong, Ikeda, and Greenwell expressed their
support and positive experiences working with Mr. Fuke in the past on other issues.
All committee members present agreed that it would not be necessary for Mr. Fuke to
appear before the full Council.

Your Committee on Public Safety and Parks and Recreation is in accordance with the
purpose and intent of Communication 134 and recommends confirmation of the
appointment of Mr. Sidney Fuke to the County of Hawaii Liquor Commission.
