Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred
Communication No. 121, regarding Bill 27, reports as follows:
Bill 27, transmitted by Director of Public Worl<s, Warren H.W. Lee, via Communication
No. 121, dated January 14, 2009 amends Chapter 24, Article 10, Division 2, Section 24-264,
Schedule 12 (Stop intersections), paragraph (f) Kona, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005
Edition, as amended), by adding the following, to be appropriately numbered and to read as
follows:
" ~ Kuakini Highway Makala Boulevard intersection, all approaches."
There was no testimony from the public on this proposed bill.
Traffic Division Chief Ron Thiel appeared before your Committee. Mr. Thiel commented that
this amendment is necessary to update the Hawaii County Code. Councilmember Pete
Hoffmann agrees this works well at this intersection. Committee Chair Brenda J. Ford agreed
that this will help deter vehicles from speeding and to slow down.

Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations is in accord with the purpose
and intent of Bill 27, and recommends it pass first reading.
