The grant's goal is to improve the department's ability to respond to violent sex crimes, physical abuse and crimes of violence against women. The grant funds will be used to compensate the SAFE nurses who are on standby status and waiting to conduct an examination on victims of sexual assault, at any time of the day or week. Enclosed is a resolution to authorize the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of Hawai'i Department of the Attorney General for this grant. Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating $43,800 into the Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) Standby Pay Grant account.
