Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 72, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 72, transmitted by Police Chief Wayne G. Carvalho, via Communication
No. 256, dated April 10, 1997, authorizes the acceptance of a donation from the Hope Chapel of
Kailua-Kona.
The Hope Chapel of Kailua-Kona, whose Chaplain is Sonny Shimaoka, has graciously donated
eighteen assorted weightlifting plates (fourteen 4516, four 2516, and ten lOlb weights) to the
Hawaii County Police Department. The weightlifting equipment is valued at eight hundred thirty
dollars ($830.00).
This generous donation will he added to the exercise equipment in the Exercise Room located at
the Kona Police station to enhance the physical conditioning of the police officers in the Kona
District.
Pursuant to Article XIII, Section 13-12 of the Hawaii County Charter, the council, on behalf of
the county, may accept gifts of donations or personal property.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 72 and
recommends its adoption. Your Committee also recommends that a letter of appreciation be sent
to Chaplain Sonny Shimaoka, Hope Chapel at 75-5656 Kuakini Highway, Suite 202, Kailua-
Kona, Hawaii 96740.
