Communication 115 Open Space Commission Reportto Mayor
Dear Mayor Kenoi and County Council members:
PLEASE! DO NOT SUSPEND OR MOVE MONEY FROM THE 2% FUND FOR ANY REASON,
ESPECIALLY TO MEET ANY BUDGET SHORTFALL. USE THIS FUND AS IT WAS INTENDED BY
THE PEOPLE OF HAWAII COUNTY.
Our County has worked hard to get the 2% measure on ballots and, once voted, our County member:
have agreed we need to pay attention to preservation of the Big Island lands. 57% of voters voted for
this measure and believe it is necessary.
It is not up to a handful of people (you all) to overturn the majority vote and take back funds that have
been set aside for the preservation and beautification of community parks and open space. Now is
the time to buy parcels while the prices are depressed.
Please honor the time spent by many individuals to express their concern for our community and the
reports filed by the Open Space Commission. You are in your position to represent the wishes of the
people of the Big Island and I would like you to respect that position and vote accordingly to preserve
the 2% fund and its purpose.
PLEASE! DO NOT SUSPEND OR MOVE MONEY FROM THE 2% FUND. Mahalo!
