Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 59, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 59, transmitted by District V Councilmember AI Smith, via Communication
No. 224, dated March 21, 1997, creates a school crossing guard position at the crosswalk of the
Old Pahoa Village Road and Kaohe Road for Pahoa Elementary, Intermediate and High Schools.
Pursuant to Article V, Section 5-1.3(c) of the Hawaii County Charter, the Mayor has the power
to create positions for which appropriations have been made by the council.
There are sufficient funds in the salaries and wages account of the Police Department to cover
the cost of the additional school crossing guard.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 59 sand
recommends its adoption.
