Dear Chairman Yoshimoto and Members,
It is my pleasure to submit for your confirmation the appointment of Randall M.
Kurohara as the new director of the county Department of Research and
Development, pursuant to the charter of the County of Hawaii. This appointment
was effective March 2, 2009.
Mr. Kurohara is a longtime Big Island small businessman, and the owner of the
graphics and screen printing company Creative Arts Hawai'i LLC. He graduated
from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa with a bachelor's degree in business
administration. He is a former manager of his family's clothing business and graphic
arts companies, which were Kurohara's Men's Clothing Stores and Creative Arts
Hawai'i.
Mr. Kurohara is incoming president of the Rotary Club of South Hilo, 2nd vice
president of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Hawai'i, and a
board member with both the Hawai'i Island Chamber of Commerce and the Boys &
Girls Club of the Big Island. He is also a deacon at the Kaumana Drive Baptist
Church.
Mr. Kurohara will serve a term co-terminus with my tenure, which will end
December 3, 2012.
