Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 125, reports as follows:
Communication No. 125, transmitted by Mayor Stephen K. Yamashiro, dated January 27, 1997,
nominates Mr. Warren P. Chong, of Kona, to the Hawaii County Board of Ethics.
A 43-year resident of Hawaii, Mr. Chong will replace Stephen G. Bess, whose term expired on
December 31, 1996. Mr. Chong has been the field representative of the Hawaii Carpenters
Union since 1989, prior to that, a carpenter with Pan Pacific Construction. He is active with the
Ironman Triathlon, West Hawaii Workforce 2000, Konawaena Complex, School to Work
Partnership Program, and the Kona Jaycees. A registered Democrat, he will serve a term to end
December 31, 2001.
Mr. Chong stated that given his background, experience, and affiliations he will be able to render
decisions consistent with the Hawaii County Charter and Hawaii State Constitution.
Pursuant to Article XIV, Section 14-5 of the Hawaii County Charter, there shall be a board of
ethics appointed by the mayor with the approval of the council
Your Committee on Finance recommends confirmation of the appointment of Mr. Warren P.
Chong to the Hawaii County Board of Ethics.
