Comm. 797: ORDINANCE BILL AMENDING THE OPERATING BUDGET (Bi11220) TO APPROPRIATE $10,700 FOR ADARE/OYS PROGRAM; AND (Res. 257) RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE COUNTY OF HAWAII TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES, OFFICE OF YOUTH SERVICES, PURSUANT TO HRS 46-7, FOR ADARE/OYS GRANT From Finance Director Harry A. Parker Ranch has agreed to pay $71,413.50 and the California Association for Research in Astronomy (W M Keck Observatory) has agreed to pay $48,670.00 for the improvements of this project. The five bleachers, valued at $7,500, are to be housed and maintained at the Waimea soccer field for County use, and for use for future Old Hawaii on Horseback Pageants. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Comm. 537: RESOLUTION ABOLISHING POLICE OFFICER II POSITION (Res. 171) NO. 3850 CREATED BY RESOLUTION NO. 23-95 (COMBAT DUI VIOLATIONS) From Finance Director Harry A. Takahashi, dated October 9, 1997, transmitting the above resolution. The Department of Transportation has stopped all funding for this program and the Police Department has requested that this position be abolished. Comm. 537.01: From Liana Cox, Legislative Assistant, dated April 14, 1998, requesting that Res. 171 (Comm. 537) be reagendized by the Finance Committee. Transmits a communication from Police Chief Wayne Carvalho, dated April 6, 1998, regarding Position No. 3850, Police Officer II, PO-07. The Police Department has temporarily assigned aCounty-funded Police Officer II, permanently assigned to the Kona District patrol unit, to keep the Traffic Task Force Unit up to full strength. States the department is therefore requesting that the Council fund the DUI enforcement officer on a permanent basis to allow the return of the officer to Kona Patrol, where patrol officers are sorely needed.
